Westmark Serves as General Contractor on Nanaimo Affordable Housing Complex
We’re excited to announce our partnership with BC Housing and the Nanaimo Affordable Housing Society (NAHS) for a new affordable housing complex in north Nanaimo. Westmark is proudly serving as the Nanaimo general contractor on this Nanaimo project that will provide homes for people with a range of incomes. Construction is underway and is anticipated to be completed in 2023.
Located at Hammond Bay Rd, the 50,977 square foot 4-storey wood-framed building will provide 53 one and two-bedroom homes for low and moderate-income individuals, families, seniors and people living with disabilities. The independent living facility will be owned and operated by the Nanaimo Affordable Housing Society.
The rental complex will provide homes for residents of varying ages and income levels, with 38 two-bedroom units and 15 one-bedroom apartments. According to BC Housing, “Some of the units will be rent-geared-to-income, meaning that the tenant pays 30 percent of their gross annual income, divided by 12, on monthly rent. Some units will be rented at deep subsidy (shelter rates, meaning they are affordable to someone on disability or social assistance).”
The development will feature outdoor green spaces, walking paths and meeting areas, a large underground parkade, a communal space for tenants, rooftop decks and green-roof areas.
