Ladysmith’s coastal setting and hillside landscapes offer a variety of parks and more than 26 km of hiking and walking trails for every age and ability level to enjoy.

Holland Creek Trails

The Holland Creek Trail is a 5.8 Km trail that appeals to all levels of outdoor enthusiasts. The trail runs along both sides of Holland Creek and features such highlights as the majestic Crystal Falls and the Colliery dams. Other trails accessible from the Holland Creek Tail include the heart-pumping Heart Lake Loop, 6.4 km, Stocking Lake loop, 9.3 km, and the Rotary Lookout Trail, 1.2 km.

Transfer Beach

Transfer Beach is a local gem for outdoor activities, water sports, festivals and events. The scenic park features swimming beaches, a playground, a spray park, covered picnic shelters, an off-leash dog park and paddleboard & kayak rentals. Transfer Beach also boasts the largest open-air amphitheatre on Vancouver Island, which serves as a venue for Ladysmith’s Concerts in the Park live music summer series.

Marine Walk

Part of the Trans Canada Trail, the Marine Walk is a 1 km beautiful walk that begins at the edge of Transfer Beach and ends next to the Government Wharf. Roughly halfway through, the path passes through the Ladysmith Maritime Society marina, which is home to the Oyster Bay Cafe, a beautiful summer spot where you can enjoy a snack or light lunch.

Sports & Recreation

Throughout the Town of Ladysmith, you can find baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a skateboard park. In the mood for golf? Then you must check out the Ladysmith Golf Club, a 9-hole par 3 course located at the south end of town. For indoor activities, visit the Frank Jameson Community Center where you can relax in warm therapy pools, a sauna, a whirlpool, or swim a few laps in a four-lane, 25-metre Olympic short course pool. There is also a fitness center, on-site physiotherapy clinic and a multi-purpose room.
