Student Tours Conducted at Two WIP Commercial Construction Sites by Westmark Construction

Late last month, Westmark Construction was happy to invite student tours at two of our commercial construction sites. As part of their Wood/Construction class, the students from G.P. Vanier Secondary School in the Comox Valley enjoy the opportunity to see the real world application of the skills they are learning.

The students toured two of our Nanaimo commercial projects currently under construction: a multi-family project on Selby, and then LEGASEA in Departure Bay. Site supervisors on each of the projects guided the students through the buildings, giving them an in-depth perspective on what a commercial design-build project looks like first-hand.

Giving back to our community on Vancouver Island is important to us, and we hope that it was valuable to the students. The teacher of the Wood/Construction program had this to say:

“What a great couple of tours. I even brought my district career teacher with me (who has been doing this for 30+ years and asked me why I would book something so far away) and he was incredibly impressed and stated: ‘even I learned a lot from those tours’. It was so worth the drive. I couldn’t have asked for anything better from a tour of a couple sites. Norm was able to show us everything from stud walls with rough-in done all the way through to finished drywall. And Eldon mesmerized them with his views of the bay and the “scale” of the luxury! Both Eldon and Norm were fantastic guides and took a ton of time to answer questions.”

These young people are the future of our industry, and we do what we can to pass on our knowledge to the next generation of general contractors and builders. We wish all of the students the best of luck to in their future endeavours!
